It has been admired for its gigantic existence for a long time. Through it flows exuberantly the world’s mightiest river. The undisputed greatness of its Mother Nature fills the heart and soothes those who visit it, while the cheerfulness and hospitality of its inhabitants transmit peacefulness and human warmth: That's the Amazon.

WELCOME BACK TO THE AMAZON
「project AMAZON」is intent to divulge, through images and photographs, the Amazon region's hidden enchantment; it's an invitation to people all over the world who wish to see it.

The great importance of the Amazon to the environment is widely known, yet few people have had the chance to visit it.
Because of its greatness and complexity, it's impossible to know it in depth. Even if we try hard to recall the history of the generations that risked their lives exploring it, their true vision may be impossible to be understood.
In spite of this, the Amazon's infinite power to enchant continues to attract the curiosity of human beings. It seems that, when setting foot on it, something happens and pushes us towards the very heart of Mother Nature. It's as if there was a natural force capable of creating a vibrant energy that captivates those who visit it. And not few visitors say they have changed points of view, individual values and even their world view after their journey in the Amazon.

Without perspectives for the future individuals are caught within a restricted social circle, with such social duties and relationships that they are inevitably forced to live without freedom.
We invite all those who question such way of life to go once to the Amazon. Not in order to comprehend it; just to feel the Amazon and its nature.
Sail along the mighty Amazon River. Hear the sounds of silence in the tropical forest. For sure you will be reminded of the true value of life, something mankind has forgotten a long time ago. And then, when admiring the night sky glowing with millions of stars while a soft breeze blows along the trails of the Amazon, for sure you'll get new energy to move ahead.

Through its itineraries, ATAKAN AMAZON takes you to feel from close by all the wealth of the Amazon.
Trips on the ATAKAN ships, considered the fastest in the Amazon, are safe and comfortable. In addition, through the ATAKAN cruises you will be participating in the project, as well as contributing to the preservation of the Amazon and the environment as a whole.

We want the Amazon living in the hearts of many.
That's the aim of the「project AMAZON」.

NAKATA KATSUHIDE
Born on February 8, 1924, in Hiroshima, Japan.

At the age of 5 moves to Brazil with his family. After working in agriculture, decides to get involved with machinery. In 1952, the Nakata brothers found an auto parts company, NAKATA S.A. Many years of dedication and high quality have consolidated it as a market leader. Even after the company was sold to a U.S. multinational, in 1998, the name NAKATA has continued to be a synonym of safety and dependability in Brazil.

After selling the company, he decides to travel all over Brazil. He visits the Amazon several times. The region's incomparable nature and the warmth of its inhabitants make him to realize that people throughout the world should be aware of the need to preserve the Amazon for mankind. To do that he moves his business headquarters to Belém and creates ATAKAN AMAZON.

His travel experiences in the Amazon with his wife were the bases to make that project come to life: the need to provide a fast, modern, comfortable means of transportation to fulfill the needs of visitors from everywhere in the world. Designing the ship was no problem. A sailor's son, he begins right away to work in building his first boat, a dream he had had since his childhood. Continuing improvements on the ATAKAN I, built in 2002, lead him to increase his fleet in 2004, with the ATAKAN II and ATAKAN III, the Amazon's fastest and best equipped boats. In the meantime, he makes every effort to sail throughout the Amazon aboard the ATAKAN I, welcome visitors and share with them this gift of nature.

In Brazil for 80 years, he has not only succeeded in business but also was able to fulfill his childhood dream: build his own boat. Currently 85-years old, Mr. Nakata lives in the Amazon and now has the dream of showing, aboard his ATAKAN, the Amazon, a treasure that is not just his, but belongs to mankind.
